Ara pacis 15
Here is the south wall seen at an angle. You can really see Marcius Agrippa's face. Much of Ara Pacis had to assembled from bits and pieces. This face looks like an old Agrippa, so it must not have been very damaged. The faces of the women all just look beautiful; there is no individuality expressed in their features. As mentioned in the blurb I wrote about his bust, Agrippa had already died in 12 BC at the age of 51 when Ara Pacis was dedicated in 9 BC. You can see Agrippa oldest son Gaius Caesar clutching Agrippa's toga. Gaius was born in 20 BC so he was 8 when his father died.
Although This ID is anything but definate, I believe the woman in the background with her hand over Gaius's head is his mother Julia, Augustus's only daughter.
I believe that the woman in the foreground is Livia, Augustus's wife. The adult male next her her is probably her son Tiberius. it would not have made sense for Tiberius to be standing next to Julia to be standing next to Tiberius. Also if the woman in the foreground is not Livia, then which figure is hers? Livia was too highly regarded by Augustus to have missed being portrayed on Ara pacis.
